Excellent Quality Tube Phono and Line Preamp with incredible sound at an unheard of price.

Master volume control, gold-plated input and output jacks (dual sets), All metal construction with popular 12AX7 and 12AU7 tubes. This is an excellent pre-amp for bi-Amping with its dual outputs which can be used at the same time.

Chinese 12AX7 tubes are used for phono section. Chinese 12AU7 tubes are for both phono and preamp section.

While this might be one of the best sounding 'affordable' tube phono stages you may have heard, the other uses for the flexible P-307 also include:

  • Record your vinyl to computer or CD Recorder with tube processing.
  • See the B-283 Tube Processor uses. The P-307 can do basically everything the B-283 can and with better results!

The P-307 is a great introduction to tube presence and punch. This pre-amp has a number of upgrade paths to improve performance further which are easy to realize and at low cost. Upgrade the capacitors, roll in some nos tubes (blackplate rca / brimars work great!) and wow, talk about a significant and cost effective advancement in stage. I am using this with a custom PP tube power amp with diy silver interconnects & speaker cables with an MMF 5.1 with a high output MC denon cartridge and I'm delighted at what this pre-amp lends to the setup.

As I mention in an earlier review, I thought the A-348 integrated amp got me closer to the music; however this was in combination with my Rega P3, Benz Ace cartridge and the P-307. To find out just how much of this ability to resolve the music into such a pleasing and emotional experience was due to the P-307, I inserted my previous phono preamp back into the system - a Music Fidelity X-LPS V3. This is a well regarded solid state phono preamp and is in a similar price range to the P-307. The differences were not slight, some of that hard edge was back with the cymbals and the very subtle guitar textures were missing. Voices had lost a little of their depth and overall the recordings were less engaging; they seemed robbed of that thrilling immediacy I’d previously heard. Just to check, I put the P-307 back into the system, and yes, the magic was back.

I had been looking for a phono stage to use to bypass the onboard ps in my Yamaha pre amp. Was looking for somthing with tubes and quiet. Being from a small city I have no place to compare phone stages so I was left at the mercy of the net. After some research I had decided to give the Jolida JD-9A a try, the closest dealer I found was in Calgary. The fellow I spoke with by phone suggested I speak with Ian Grant before making a choice. After a conversation with Ian a P-307 was on its way. My innitial impression after I connected up to my 24 year old Bryston 4b and equally as old Cerwin Vega AT-15's was a bit dissapointing. My source is a Pro-Ject xpression tt with a Suimiko pearl mm cartridge. My problem was extreme floor shaking house vibrating bass. My amp would clip without much volume. After a call to Ian and a few tests I ran the P-307 through my Yamaha pre so I could control the bass. This seemed to work but was not the way I wanted to be set up. (Just a note I did not have the problem when using my cd player.) Any how a week later I installed a new Sumiko blue point#2 high output mc cartridge, aligned balance etc and bypassed the Yamaha again. Everything is wonderfull. I wish I had the lingo to describe what I now here but awsome will have to do. Not sure why the Pearl cartridge caused the trouble but with the new one everything is smooth. I am now looking at Grant fiddelty hot deals to futher the tube experience. Thanx.
