"I can honestly say that this CD player is the best I have heard anywhere near this price point and should satisfy the most discriminating listener"

Reviewed by Mike Pershkin of Positive Feedback:

"For the first time in my life I have not missed my 10,000 LP Collection. I began playing CDs I hadn't played in a number of years, some I'd listened to only once because they didn't grab me. Every CD I played grabbed me. It didn't matter whether it was the really early Blue Note CD reissues or those RVG remasters, I spent hours more than I should have listening to music".

Reviewed by Kent Johnson of Positive Feedback:

"I am very impressed with this CD player. I like it a lot and would recommend auditioning it to anyone with a roughly $1000 budget who is seeking the absolute best sound quality he or she can find. It is going to be very expensive finding a CD player that clearly improves upon it."

The CD-327A uses a Sanyo pickup with a Phillips SAA7824 servo. At critical points, MCAP, Solen and ELNA components are used. Amplification is provided by the Burr Brown OPA2604, known for its smooth sound and wide frequency response. The CD-327a has a coax digital output and one set of RCA (tube) outputs.

The custom Bur Brown 192/24 bit DAC chip is capable of reproducing the audible range of vinyl records. The up-sampling can be defeated or selected directly from your remote control. You have the option of selecting the frequencies of 44.1 kHz, 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz to optimize your system performance.

Two 12AX7 tubes gives the CD-327a its smooth sound. French Solen output capacitors and aluminum isolation feet round out the features of this high fidelity component.

Grant Fidelity CD-327A's chip design allows for filtering, conversion and up-sampling in one single chip. The special low pass filter contributes to the pure and natural tonal quality that breathes new life into every CD. Like other Grant Fidelity products the CD-327a boasts an exceptionally quiet power supply.

I just thought I would jump in and state that this unit has better overall refinement than the YBA CD 3 that I have owned previously, more musically pleasing than the Rega Jupiter and Io combo, better prat and bass response than the Naim CD 5i, and just a greater overall presentation than any other player I have ever heard in a set up. That also includes the likes of Krell, a Sony 777, and even a Bryston BCD 1.
I don't know how all of this is possible for the price but as far as I'm concerned my search for a player is over. OBI I think you feel me on this one!

"The CD-327A I recently acquired is still burning in the Psvane tubes – maybe 60 hours on it now – but I will freely admit it kicks the a$$ of every other redbook player that has passed through here.

My go-to system had been an Emotiva (seriously) ERC-1 player with one of my TubeDAC-09 units – very sweet. The Emo unit has since been sold to a sales rep from a very high-end local audio shop. I have no use for it now!
The 327 has bested that easily – I am hard to impress, but it has made me a believer. Marc from Montreal convinced me to give it a try – many thanks Marc.

At this moment I have a live recording of Patricia Barber playing on the unit – it’s like I’m actually there!

Thanks for all the support past and present,

Rod H"

by customer Marc P. in Montreal:

"I received my CD-327A and Psvane 12AX7 tubes yesterday. Thank you very much! I am absolutely pleased with the unit and with the factory tubes it sounded just as sweet as my original one ... that is until I plugged both units into my Stax SRM-006t II tube headphone amp and Stax SR-202 headphones with identical CDs in them and did some A-B comparisons. Whoever said that tube burn in is a myth has never heard 2 identical sets of tubes (one with 4-500 hours on them and the other brand new) side by side in identical CDPs.

The difference between the 2 players is huge; better, tighter bass, more detail in the highs, warmer mids, blacker background, everything sound so much better on the burned in unit (easy to hear through the headphones as both CDP are synched and respond to the same remote for instant A-B comparison). As big a difference between the 2 sets of identical stock tubes is, the difference between the Psvane tubes and the stock tubes is just as dramatic, even though they are not even an hour old. The CD-327A had already been such a revelation for me, bringing out all sorts of subtle details and textures that I had never heard before on material I thought I was intimately familiar with and so far (barely an hour so far), the Psvanes are already bringing out even more. Since getting my first CD-327A I had been rediscovering my entire music collection; looks like I have to start all over again, but who is complaining!

They really do take the CD-327A to a whole new level with more ef everything I already love about the sound of my CD-327A and even less background noise, graininess on certain instruments and even more refinement than I had been experiencing so far. I can hardly wait to hear what they will sound like once they get a few hundred hours underneath them. Without a doubt the best under $100 investment I have EVER made in my sound systems. Guess I'm going to have to order another set of Psvane 12AX7s for my other CDP-27A in the main system for Christmas!

Regards,

Marc P. (Montréal)

Doing a comparison with the Cary and Grant does reveal some minor weaknesses but this is a $950US player compared to a $4000US player. The bottom end of both the Cary and Grant are tight and well controlled although the presentation differs between the two.

Although our in-home audition program allows potential customers to try out the unit for 21 days, one customer has decided to keep it after 5 days audition. Here is what he says:

"Hi Rachel I have been very impressed by the 327-A! It is superior to my old Arcam unit. I will obviously be keeping the player.... Thank-you for your prompt service and shipping. We will do business again!" - Jason D., Nov 4th, 2008
